Nokia E5 is the latest of the Nokia’s Business phone series. After doing lot of research and comparing number of qwerty phones by different manufacturers, I found E-5 to be best suited for my needs. Comes in various colors as mentioned below, but I bought a white one for myself, as it looks cool as well as comes with a Matte finish which doesn’t get scratched easily. Its beeen 3 months and I m using it without any hassle.

One best feature is the builtin email app has a easy to understand wizard to setup your official or personal emails. Email reading and composing interfaces are cool and your online address books can be synchronised easily. Using some available online services you can also synchronise your google calander with your Nokia E-5 calendar. If your organisation uses Microfot’s Exchange server for email communications, you can easily set it up in your E5 “Mail for Exchange” app. I tried setting up my google apps account with “MfE” but couldnt do it. But I know if I research further I will be able to do it as I have read reviews of others who have done it.

There is a builtin ‘IM chat application’ with the help of which you can connect your Gtalk, MSN or ovi chat accounts. A small facebook application that helps u perform basic facebook operations. Ovi Store with loads of free applications and other freebies along with the regular paid stuff. A very good youtube application. Believe me youtube plays faster on my E-5 compared to broadband on pc. You can download and install regular symbian stuff on E-5 too.

It supports multi tasking, that means you can run multiple applications simultaneously. But by far the best thing I liked about E-5 is totally hassle free GPS navigation. I had GPS in my N82 earlier too but it never worked on the streets of mumbai. But with E-5 I m able to find my way through GPS and Ovi maps.

The HTC HD2 is a sequel to the HTC Touch HD. The major features of the HTC HD2 are similar to its previous model but only with a few minor changes. This phone has a massive touch screen measuring 4.3 inches which is much larger than the 3.8 inches in the HTC Touch HD. Apart from that the other major difference is that the mini USB connector has now been replaced by a micro USB connector. Other than these two major features, the other ones remain pretty much the same. The design is also quite similar as both the phones almost alike with the exception of the HTC HD2 having a larger screen. Another point of difference between the HTC HD2 and the earlier similar models is that it uses an updated version of Windows Mobile 6.5.

The huge touch screen is the feature that mesmerizes all of us. The tactile response is great making using the phone a rather pleasing experience. The internal memory capacity is also pretty large at 512 MB and can be easily expanded up to a whopping 32 GB using the micro SD slot.

Overall the HTC HD2 is a great phone which has lots of great features that are both essential and useful. The touch screen is also very good and responds extremely well which is what a touch phone should essentially offer.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 software will be installed on new Windows phones that launch on 6 October.

In Europe, phones operating Windows Mobile 6.5 will be available from Orange and Vodafone, as well as phone manufacturers Acer, HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba.

The software giant has ground to make up in the mobile OS market, with competitors such as Apple selling millions of iPhones and device manufacturers choosing to run machines on the Google Android operating system.

Using a Windows mobile will enable Microsoft’s millions of desktop OS users to use the same applications as they do on their PC, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Version 6.5 of the operating system has improved browsing capabilities and introduced an easier-to-use interface.

It has also introduced services for users. These include one that makes applications available for direct download to Windows phones from Windows Marketplace for Mobile. It will also provide a free service called My Phone that allows customers to automatically back up and sync photos, music, contacts and text messages from their phone to the web.

“A Windows phone gives people a single phone that works for their whole life, keeping them connected to the people and information they care most about by harnessing the power of the PC, phone and web,” said a Microsoft press statement.

LG has just announced the launch of two new handsets the LG GW520 and LG GT505. These two new handsets are designed to offer users more than simple means of communication with push updates from social networking sites and both business and personal email.

The GW250 is what I would call the LG KS360’s big brother. The LG GW520 and the LG GT505 are the first LG phones to offer push social networking updates allowing consumers to receive alerts from multiple social network sites as they are posted. Users now have the ease of use and functionality to update their own statuses, personal pages or photos. Both new models support push email for personal accounts and have Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for business accounts.

“Mobile communications have been about more than just voice based calls for a long time, but consumers are now demanding more than just SMS and IM services. They want the kind of messaging and social networking features previously the preserve of high end handsets on a wide range of models, and that is what LG is offering. We recognize the demand for mobile devices that enable quick and easy interaction with social network sites as a growing market. LG aspires to be at the forefront of this with the launch of these great mobile phones”, said Jeremy Newing, head of marketing, LG Mobile UK.

The LG GW520 is a mobile made for messaging, be that via social networks, email or SMS and IM. It enables users to connect to their communities and grow their social life on the move. It also features -

2.8-inch touchscreen

slide-out QWERTY keypad

3G with HSDPA 3.6

Voice instruction

MicroSD card support

Bluetooth with A2DP

3 megapixel camera

This handset also includes LG’s LiveSquare feature which enables the consumer to see those friends that you talk to most often appearing as an animated character on the homescreen. These characters enable quick and easy access to a contact at the click of a button.

The second handset – the LG GT505 allows easy navigation using Wisepilot for LG. This handset comes preloaded with a 30-day free trial of WisePilot for LG, a turn-by-turn navigation solution, which offers voice instruction and a choice of 2D and 3D mapping to guide users to their destinations.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., today reinforced its leadership in the high megapixel cameraphone market by unveiling Samsung Pixon12 (M8910) – the world’s first 12-megapixel camera phone with full-touch screen.

A response to today’s consumers who demand robust camera features in their mobile phones, the Pixon12 comes packed with a host of functions which enable consumers to easily capture, browse and share their images on the move – all on a brilliant full-touch 3.1-inch AMOLED screen.

“The Pixon12 is testament to how Samsung’s ongoing consumer research enables us to develop ground-breaking products that do not just meet but surpass our customers’ expectations. Speedy access to the camera mode, fast shutter speed and quick browsing are some of the key factors consumers are looking for in their mobile phone cameras” said Executive Vice President JK Shin, Head of Mobile Communication Division in Samsung Electronics.

He added, “We are very pleased to introduce the world’s first 12-megapixel camera phone that holds the answer to these pressing consumer needs.”

Instant Shoot

The Samsung Pixon12 enables users to take perfect pictures quickly and easily, thanks to a Dedicated Camera Power Key which gives users fast one-touch access to the camera function. Once the camera is turned on, users can aim and snap, capturing images as fast as today’s advanced digital camera. Samsung Pixon12 also features fast image saving for next shot, so users can move to next shot within around 2 seconds.

The phone provides the best photo quality by adopting innovative camera features. With Touch Auto-Focus (AF) tracking, users can simply select focus point with the touch of a finger, after which the AF function will automatically follow the object, keeping it in focus even as it moves across the screen. Moreover, Smart Auto feature allows users to capture the perfect images as the camera automatically changes the scene and mode based on its object, background and lighting.

Images taken on the Pixon12 are worth showing off to friends and loved ones as they boast digital camera quality thanks to the phone camera’s superb lens and Xenon flash.

The 28mm wide angle lens also allows a better perspective and more full capture of a scene for consumers.

Instant See

After they are done snapping, users can re-live and enjoy the pictures on the Pixon12’s brilliant 3.1” AMOLED screen. The screen boasts a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 while providing power-saving features which increase battery life.

Finally, the Pixon12 enables users to easily organize and manage photos with multiple ways of sorting – by tags, file names, ratings, and time. In addition, the multi-selection feature enables users to pull up images in groups rather than one by one, making viewing and editing photos much easier.

Instant Share

With Samsung Share Pix, the Pixon12 lets users easily upload images and videos to popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, MySpace, Photobucket, Friendster – a breeze. Add to that, the phone’s high-connectivity functions including Wi-Fi and HSUPA capabilities mean that user’s photos can be shared to their friends in no time.

The Samsung Pixon12 will be available from end of June in European countries and it wil be expanded to other regions in August.

This handset promises to provide a little more than the previous M8800 Pixon with its 8 megapixel camera. The lack of certain features has been compensated for and I’m sure if you take a look at the specs below, you’ll feel a whole lot better if you decided to hold out for the next model which is now here as the M8910 Pixon12.

While most the specs of the Pixon12 won’t differ from the previous mode, Here’s what else it has to offer -

Xenon and LED flashes

720 x 480 pixel video recording at 30fps

offering a 28mm wide-angle lens

tracking Touch Auto Focus

Smart Auto mode for adjusting the light to ambiance

Wi-Fi (woo hoo!)and 3G support

GPS with A-GPS support and Geo-Tagging

Face detection

and a 3.1-inch AMOLED display with a 10000:1 contrast

Though the M8800 Pixon was still a good handset , it just got a whole lot better with this upgrade.

The M8190 should be out in Europe this month and hopefully it’ll get here a little bit later. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long.

One of the more exciting things about the upcoming HTC ‘Hero’ G2 smartphone is that it will come with a new, updated version of the lauded Android operating system. Well, today we’ve got some great news for you Android-loving G1 owners out there; the Hero has been cracked, and HTC’s new version of Android is available for download on the G1.Finding it might be a little difficult, however. Haykuro, the 17-year-old developer that leaked Cupcake ahead of its release date, has somehow found a ROM from the upcoming G2. He fiddled around with it and managed to get it to work on his G1. Haykuro’s calling this new OS update “donut”, and he’s posted a video of what it’s capable of up here.

If you don’t have an unlocked dev phone G1, you’re going to have to wait a few weeks to get Donut running on your machine. The ROM is hard to find and it doesn’t work for rooted G1 owners. Fortunately, the fact that Donut is already out among the developer community means it shouldn’t be too long before a version is out that the rest of us can use.

And what can we expect from this update to Android’s UI? For one thing, Android now handles playing and storing music files a lot better. The playlist interface has improved dramatically, and there’s now a shortcut to the media player right under the google search bar on the Android desktop. The Internet browser, the calendar, and a whole host of other bits of the Android UI have received significant updates.

an Android dev named Haykuro managed to get a hold of a ROM of the new version of Android for the HTC Hero. Now, thanks to another developer, we’ve got a video of the leaked build that shows us the widget functionality we can expect out of the upcoming Hero and probably G1.2 as well.

It gives us a pretty good look at how the the latest version of Android will perform, at least on the Hero. I have to say, I am highly impressed. For one thing, the new widgets look great. They’re all well-designed and you can tell at a glance exactly what information they have for you.

The new Android UI starts off as very bare-bones, but by filling your home screen up with widgets you turn it into a glittering utopia of pretty gadgets. Just from this video, we can see an excellent-looking Twitter feed, a bookmark section, a great little weather tool, a scrolling contact list with contact photos, and a music player.

With all of those on, the UI gets pretty filled up, but never crowded. Just like in the current Android build, you can slide left or right to give yourself more space, and access the rest of your programs. Honestly, it looks to me like Android’s gotten even easier to use. It really is a great little touch screen UI, and HTC is taking advantage of Android’s strengths with this new ‘donut’ build.

Those of you that look at the iconic Android clock on your T-Mobile G1 or the HTC Magic and think: ‘that’s so 2008′, get ready to pick up the uber-skinned HTC Hero ROM instead.

The clever chaps over at the XDA developers forum have managed to put together a working port that makes your current, bog-standard Android device into a next generation behemoth.

Well, that is until the HTC Hero actually hits the shops in the not-too-distant-future, complete with super widget gallery and some kind of space-age buttons that might make you feel like you’re aboard some intergalactic space ship. Or not, your call.

Wrangler

The only problem is you’ll need to be a pretty clued-up developer / code wrangler to get this thing on your phone – we’re talking flashing the device, connecting up the debugger, the works.

So if you’ve only just committed to an HTC Magic for two years on £40-odd a month, you might want to think twice before breaking it through your ham-fisted porting efforts.

But on the plus side, the leak means it’s unlikely we’ll have to wait too long for the HTC Hero, so you can at least upgrade to the latest version of the Android gang if you’re lumbered with nothing more than a shiny white brick.

What is Android?

AndroidTM delivers a complete set of software for mobile devices: an operating system, middleware and key mobile applications. The Android Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available. (Source)

Is Android Open Source?

Android was built from the ground-up to enable developers to create compelling mobile applications that take full advantage of all a handset has to offer. It was built to be truly open. For example, an application can call upon any of the phone’s core functionality such as making calls, sending text messages, or using the camera, allowing developers to create richer and more cohesive experiences for users. Android is built on the open Linux Kernel. Furthermore, it utilizes a custom virtual machine that was designed to optimize memory and hardware resources in a mobile environment. Android is open source; it can be liberally extended to incorporate new cutting edge technologies as they emerge. The platform will continue to evolve as the developer community works together to build innovative mobile applications.

All applications are created equal?

Android does not differentiate between the phone’s core applications and third-party applications. They can all be built to have equal access to a phone’s capabilities providing users with a broad spectrum of applications and services. With devices built on the Android Platform, users are able to fully tailor the phone to their interests. They can swap out the phone’s homescreen, the style of the dialer, or any of the applications. They can even instruct their phones to use their favorite photo viewing application to handle the viewing of all photos.

Breaking down application boundaries?

Android breaks down the barriers to building new and innovative applications. For example, a developer can combine information from the web with data on an individual’s mobile phone — such as the user’s contacts, calendar, or geographic location — to provide a more relevant user experience. With Android, a developer can build an application that enables users to view the location of their friends and be alerted when they are in the vicinity giving them a chance to connect.

Fast & easy application development?

Android provides access to a wide range of useful libraries and tools that can be used to build rich applications. For example, Android enables developers to obtain the location of the device, and allows devices to communicate with one another enabling rich peer-to-peer social applications. In addition, Android includes a full set of tools that have been built from the ground up alongside the platform providing developers with high productivity and deep insight into their applications.
