Apple Chief Executive Officer launched Apple iPad today.

Mr. Jobs said -This tablet computer will plug the gap between a mobile and laptop. Apple iPad is 0.5 inch thick, it has a 9.7-inch IPS display, and weighs just 1.5 pounds. Ipad will have an Ebook reader and users will be able to watch movies, play music and surf the web on Apple Ipad.

The iPad has a touchscreen keyboard that is almost full-size.

Steve Jobs claimed the new gadget is a third type of technology product integrating the power of a computer and a phone. He said- It’s so much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable than a smart phone.

It has the iTunes store built right in. YouTube, and YouTube in HD. ‘And it’s awesome to watch movies and TVs. The iPad will be powered by a 1GHz Apple A4 chip, and has 16GB to 64GB of flash storage, WiFi and Bluetooth, it has a speaker, microphone, accelerometer and compass. It will be possible to synchronise photos with Mac and Windows, it has ten hours of f battery life if watching continuous videos. Ipad also has one month of standby charge. The iPad will run from the same App Store as the iPhone.

It was also announced that the New York Times had created a customised application for the iPad. Mr McGraw of McGraw Hill said that this launch will help them market their ebooks in the Higher education market. McGraw-Hill is a major developer and publisher of educational textbooks, and some of its college texts are already available for reading on Apple’s iPhone. Estimates for the tablet range from $600 to $1,000, excluding any potential subsidies from wireless carriers, with Verizon Wireless believed to be the carrier.

It is widely accepted that the the iSlate will look like a larger version of the iPod Touch, designed to replace conventional laptops or smaller netbooks. It is believed to be a keyboardless tablet computer with a 10in touch-sensitive screen that will be part of an integrated ‘ecosystem’ of services tipped to include functions and content for the education sector, digital books, newspapers and magazines.

If rumours are correct and Apple is working with the Wall Street Journal and other written media outlets, then this device could do to publishing what the iPod did for music. One German electronics retailer suggested the iSlate would cost 499 euros – £436 – if bought as part of a mobile network package from T-mobile.

It appears users would be expected to pay a monthly fee based on the amount of data downloaded over the mobile phone system.
